Synopsis for Original Title
"I have watched from below the stars, when I was still able to fly and have seen all forms of augury. All but one, it seems. The last will be the most important, yet it will still be the last.
Xantium, the once glorious capital of a great empire, is now a burning shell that harbours unimaginable evil. The Empress Ifryn and her family have fled to the southern lands, while Fen, Dsordas and their companions have returned to Zalys, their island home. But even in these remote places they are not safe, and their battle with the usurper, Chancellor Verkho, is far from over.
As the gods of the old pantheon threaten to return to the world of men, Ifryn and her distant ally, Fen, prepare for their final, terrifying confrontation with their sorcerous enemy - and for the greatest gamble of their lives.
